I had asthma since I was in 3rd grade. In 2004 I had a very bad asthma episode that lasted for over a week and made it difficult to do my job. I was taking the medicines, but nothing seemed to be working. I had gone down that roller coaster of having to go to the emergency room and get shots and steroids, and I didn’t want to do that again. I started applying lots of the vibhuti (sacred ash). I would also light a ghee lamp and offer it to Datta’s picture and pray that He would heal me. I didn’t know what else to do.

During the day, I would visualize lighting a little ghee lamp and placing in front of Datta’s picture in my heart. For a few days I didn’t notice any improvement. Then one day I had a really hard time when I had to work outside in a cold wind. The thing that helped me continue on was remembering the ghee lamp and Datta’s picture in my heart. After that I started to improve rapidly. Due to Datta’s divine grace, I have enjoyed the miracle of healthy breathing for nearly all of the 3 ½ years since then. I have had only a couple minor episodes that cleared up rapidly, and need very little medicine. The doctor had a hard time believing I was doing so well because, unfortunately, all his other patients were getting worse. It is literally true that we only breathe due to the grace of God.
