One day Baba Sri Siva (Datta) told me that He was ending the karma I had with my current employer, and that soon I would come and work full-time for one of His companies. He also told me that I should try to get another of His devotees hired in my place.

I trusted totally in Datta’s prediction, but I also knew my employer had no intention of letting me go any time soon as they were quite happy with my work and had long-term plans for me. Plus, they had just hired an in-house resource who, if I just quit, would likely take the job over Datta’s devotee. I began thinking of best way to quit and persuade my boss of the new hire.

A few days later, I was chanting the Baba Sri Siva Gayatri mantra on my mala while driving on a major highway to work. About a minute after I had finished and put down the mala, the traffic came to an abrupt halt.

I slammed on my breaks and stopped a foot short of the car in front of me. The car behind me however, crashed into my car and forced my car into the one in front of me, which ricocheted into three additional cars! Then it happened again. Another round of metal crushing as a sixth car piled in from the behind. Then yet another car plowed into the back. Seven cars in total! Despite the extent of the accident, there were no serious injuries. But having received the most of the impact of all the cars (being in the middle), I had whiplash for several days.

When Datta heard about the accident He had said that with this accident He has just finished my karma. The accident, without His Blessings, would have killed me. He said that as of that day, I would no longer have to go into my old job. It was true. It was also very easy for me to recommend to my manager that they hire a knowledgeable replacement, Datta’s unemployed devotee, as the company had upcoming urgent deadlines. Additionally, I earned a commission on his job placement fee.
